On the morning of July 12, 2024, the School of Geographic Science and Remote Sensing held a self-evaluation meeting for the first level discipline master's degree authorization point in Geography in Conference Room 210 on the back seat of the Administrative East Building. The members of the evaluation expert group included Professor Fan Junhui, a member of the Discipline Evaluation Group of the Guangdong Provincial Academic Degrees Committee, Professor Deng Ruru from the School of Geographic Science and Planning, Sun Yat sen University, Researcher Chen Shuisen from the Guangzhou Institute of Geography, Guangdong Academy of Sciences, Associate Professor Li Le from the School of Management, Guangdong University of Technology, and Associate Researcher Liu Tong from the Institute of Ecology, Environment and Soil Research, Guangdong Academy of Sciences. Members of the college leadership team, heads of various degree programs, representatives of supervisors, and representatives of graduate students attended the meeting.
Vice Dean Yang Xiankun reported to the expert group on the development and construction of our first level geography master's degree program in the past five years, introducing various aspects such as training objectives and directions, faculty construction, scientific research, talent cultivation, international exchanges, and employment.
Under the leadership of Professor Fan Junhui, the leader of the evaluation team, the attending experts reviewed the relevant self-evaluation materials. After organizing discussions, inquiries, discussions, and exchanges, the evaluation experts unanimously agreed that the development ideas of the first level discipline degree authorization points in geography are clear, the talent training goals are clear, the positioning and faculty structure are reasonable, and the disciplinary characteristics are relatively distinctive. A complete master's degree training system has been formed, which can fully guarantee the training needs of master's degree students in the degree points; In addition, experts have also proposed suggestions such as refining disciplinary characteristics, improving the working conditions for graduate experiments, increasing the student teacher ratio, and expanding the enrollment scale for graduate students.
On the basis of summarizing the experience of degree authorization point construction and combining expert evaluation opinions, our institute will further explore the development potential of degree authorization points, promote the construction of disciplinary connotations, improve the quality of graduate talent cultivation, and promote the high-quality development of disciplines.
